Hm... I think Green is really in a difficult situation because he feels morally reprehensible for what happened to her. Actually, when I wrote this, I was debating between Leaf falling because of the Pidgeys and Leaf falling because she was trying to get her hand out of Green's grasp, but lark convinced me to go with the former because it's too mean to make Green feel directly responsible for everything. I do think (and my Leaf would agree) that she's responsible for herself, and wouldn't blame Green. Leaf does know - that's why she was crying; she just doesn't can't remember that she knows.
The thing with the mirror, I've watched videos about patients of anterograde amnesia, and it's like... they understand it's them, but (especially after a long time) their expectation of how they look doesn't line up with reality. But because it's from their eyes, they know it has to be them.
Hm... I think you're right about needing a scene with her mother, but even realizing that, I still can't think of a scene that would work. It would either have to be way after the end when Leaf's mother just couldn't take care of her anymore, or maybe at the beginning when she just finds out (like, "mother, why are you so sad?") The thing is, most people deal with what they have, and I feel like Leaf's mother would just come to terms with it or hide it. You have a good point, though, but it was something I think I unconsciously decided wasn't necessary to the movement of the fic when I was writing.
Thanks for the critique and the lovely review! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
